Nike Air Tech Challenge II Borrows Nike Mag's Colors For Back To The Future

Nike Air Tech Challenge II Borrows Nike Mag's Colors For Back To The Future

ALEX NGUYENAugust 17, 2026

The Nike Air Tech Challenge II, the model forever tied to Andre Agassi and designer Tinker Hatfield, is set to receive a new colorway inspired by the Nike Mag, the self-lacing sneaker made famous in Back to the Future Part II. It's a rare moment where Agassi's early '90s tennis legacy meets one of Nike's most futuristic design icons, creating an interesting overlap between two very different chapters in the brand's history.

The shoe keeps a light grey base throughout, staying true to the understated look of the original Mag. The standout detail sits on the heel, where the Nike branding shifts to a cool blue instead of the usual white, while soft orange-red tones creep into the tongue for a subtle gradient effect. The midsole carries a scattering of tiny flecks, echoing the high-tech texture that defined the Mag when it first debuted. A translucent outsole rounds things out, reinforcing the futuristic feel this colorway is going for.

This isn't the first time Nike has brought the Mag's design language back to the tennis court. The Vapor 12 Hypersmash received a similar treatment not long ago, suggesting Nike is leaning on the Mag's legacy as a recurring thread across its current performance lineup. For the Air Tech Challenge II, the pairing carries extra weight given Agassi's own history, he wore this same silhouette in the "Hot Lava" colorway during his first Grand Slam final appearance at Roland Garros in 1990.

The Nike Air Tech Challenge II "Back To The Future" is set to release on August 18, 2026, retailing for $180.
