Nike Appoints Kristin Bauer As New Converse Chief Operating Officer
ALEX NGUYEN•September 05, 2026
Nike has officially appointed Kristin Bauer to the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Converse, effective September 14, 2026. Under the new organizational structure, she will report directly to Nike's overall Chief Operating Officer, rather than operating independently within the subsidiary brand as before. This ranks among the most notable senior personnel changes at Converse in years, and has been reported by at least six major outlets, including Bloomberg, SGB Online, Business of Fashion, WWD, Yahoo Finance, and FashionUnited.

Before joining Converse, Bauer spent three years as Chief Supply Chain Officer at Foot Locker. Her background in logistics and retail operations is seen as a key factor behind the decision, particularly as Converse faces challenges that are more structural than product or design related. A senior retail executive from a company the size of Foot Locker moving into a brand-level operating role also reflects how Nike appears to be viewing Converse's current situation.
The backdrop to the change isn't especially positive. Converse has posted 13 consecutive quarters of declining revenue, an unusually long downturn for a brand of its scale within Nike's portfolio. Converse's fiscal year 2026 results fell 31% to $1.2 billion, down from a peak of $2.4 billion in fiscal year 2023. In other words, Converse has lost nearly half its scale from its peak in just a few years, a decline significant enough to become a corporate-level concern.

Amid this, according to sources close to the Bauer appointment, Authentic Brands Group (ABG) has reportedly expressed interest in a potential acquisition of Converse. ABG owns and licenses a wide range of major fashion and sports names, and its appearance alongside a personnel restructuring at Converse has prompted industry observers to question the brand's long-term direction under Nike. There is no official confirmation of any specific deal, but the timing between the two pieces of news is hard to ignore.
It's worth noting this is purely a personnel and corporate structure story, not tied to any specific Converse product or shoe line. Bringing in a seasoned supply chain expert as COO, reporting directly to Nike's top operations leadership, suggests the immediate focus is on internal stabilization rather than design or product-launch decisions. For a brand that has just gone through 13 straight quarters of declining revenue, this could be a move to stop the slide before considering bigger scenarios, including a potential change of ownership down the road.
