Reebok Engine A "Pump": 1991 Meets the Modern Hardwood

Reebok Engine A "Pump": 1991 Meets the Modern Hardwood

ALEX NGUYENJuly 29, 2026

Reebok has confirmed the Engine A "Pump" in White/Black/Orange will drop this Friday, July 31, priced at $160 on Reebok.com. For anyone who has followed Reebok Basketball long enough, this release carries more weight than a fresh colorway. It's a direct callback to the night Dee Brown bent down and pumped up his sneakers in front of a packed arena at the 1991 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, turning a mechanical gimmick into one of the most recognizable moments in sneaker history.

Reebok Engine A "Pump": 1991 Meets the Modern Hardwood

Modern Midsole, Old-School Memory

The original Engine A launched back in August 2024, worn on court by WNBA star Angel Reese, and carved out its own lane through the ERS (Energy Return System) platform and a SuperFloat cushioning core. This Pump edition leaves that core performance package untouched. What changes is the tongue, now housing an inflatable bladder that revives the fit-customization trick that made the Pump name in 1989. The orange pump button sits front and center against the black and white base, while smaller orange hits around the heel and midsole tie the whole silhouette back to what Brown had on his feet that night.

Retro Details, Real Performance

What sets the Engine A "Pump" apart is that it doesn't lean on nostalgia and call it a day. The black and white midsole keeps its chunky, modern shape, and the light gray rubber outsole runs a wavy traction pattern built for actual on-court use, not just for looking good in on-feet shots. Reebok is pulling off something a lot of performance brands forget how to do: letting heritage inform the design without freezing the shoe in retro mode. Thirty-five years after Brown's dunk put the Pump on the map, Reebok is telling that story again, this time through a shoe built to actually run in.
